Press Release: Statement from State Auditor Julie Blaha on Today’s Executive Council Meeting

Saint Paul, MN – “Our efforts are making a difference and today’s Executive Council actions help put supports in place early so we can keep our response strong,” said Auditor Blaha.

Today, the Minnesota Executive Council voted to approve the following Executive Orders issued by Governor Walz:

Executive Order 20-14: Suspending Evictions and Writs of Recovery During the COVID-19 Peacetime Emergency

Executive Order 20-15: Providing Relief to Small Businesses During the COVID-19 Peacetime Emergency

Executive Order 20-17: Clarifying Application of Executive Order 20-09 to Veterinary Surgeries and Procedures

These orders will help keep people in their homes, protect small businesses, and get resources to the medical personnel who need them most.

Auditor Blaha said, “The idea of “Stay Home Minnesota” works best when Minnesotans have a home in which to stay. One of my roles as State Auditor is to serve on the board of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, which is the assigned agency to coordinate the implementation of the order. This order is not only needed as a support for those who are deeply impacted by closures, but will also aid in our efforts to maintain social distance.”

“I grew up in my dad’s family machine shop,” Blaha continued. “I understand how tough it is for small businesses to weather uncertain times. I’ve seen firsthand how timely support can mean the difference between a small business staying afloat or closing the doors. These small business loans have the potential to stave off some long term impacts of COVID-19 on our small business community.”

Blaha added, “Humility is needed in times when quick action is vital. After additional consideration, the Walz-Flanagan administration is improving an earlier executive order. This order expands efforts to ensure medical resources are targeted to the greatest needs of the veterinary field. That’s the kind of humility that allows vital action to be taken quickly and with confidence.”
